Nephi’s Psalm

In this installment, I will provide a metric whereby the
accuracy of transcription and translation of the Old Testament may be assessed.
This seems so simple, though, that surely others must have also noted this
similarity, so I am adding to it something that I do not think is known to
anyone else, yet I explained in a previous installment - namely, that Psalm 18
is a prophetic description of the man called Nephi in the Book of Mormon. I
have put everything together here for your convenience, so you can judge
everything for yourself and establish your own conclusions.
First, the promised internal metric in the Old Testament: It turns out that
Psalm 18 is repeated identically in 2 Samuel. Any differences are due to
scribal error or translation differences.
Which is the more accurate? Let’s ask another question -
which is older, the second book of Samuel, or the book of Psalms? Psalms is
older. How do I know? Consider this:
1 Samuel 9:9
9 (Beforetime in Israel,
when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the
seer: for [he that is] now [called] a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.)
In a previous installment, I shared my discovery that the Urim
and Thummim were taken from Jerusalem at the time of its fall under the
siege of the army of Nebuchadnezzer, about 588 B.C.
The books of Samuel were written after this time as you can see. The book of
Psalms was written about one thousand B.C.
Now, for your amusement, you have several tools below.
First, Psalm 18. Then the version of Psalm 18 recorded in the 2nd book of
Samuel. From these two you may assess the degree of transcription and
translation variance in two manuscripts half a millennium apart. Finally, there
are inserted the references in the Book of Nephi which allow you to judge for
yourself what prophet the psalmist is referring to - it certainly is not
himself (King David) which you can tell by the repeated claims that he has
clean hands and has never broken a serious commandment - a claim which does
apply in fact, to Nephi.
I hope you find this interesting.
Psalms 18:1
And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
Psalms 18:2
2 The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my
strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, [and]
my high tower.
2 Samuel 22:2
2 And he said, The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
2 Samuel 22:3
3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: [he is] my shield, and the horn of
my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour;
thou savest me from violence.
2 Nephi 4:30
30 Rejoice, O my heart, and cry unto the Lord, and say: O Lord, I will praise

salvation.

31 O Lord, wilt thou redeem my soul? Wilt thou deliver me out of the hands of
mine enemies? Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin?
Psalms 18:3
3 I will call upon the LORD, [who is worthy] to be praised: so shall I be saved
from mine enemies.
2 Samuel 22:4
4 I will call on the LORD, [who is] worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved
from mine enemies.

2 Samuel 22:11

seen upon the wings of the wind.
[I should note here that in old manuscripts, the word for spirit is often used
interchangeably with the word wind - for example, Latin “spiritus”
may be translated either way - a “spiritus lentus” as any Latin scholar knows, is a direction for a
light breathing or aspiration in pronouncing a word.]
2 Nephi 4:25
25 And upon the wings of his Spirit hath my body been
carried away upon exceedingly high mountains. And mine eyes have beheld great
things, yea, even too great for man; therefore I was bidden that I should not
