The Origin of Nations David Grant Stewart, Sr. (c) 2007 After the flood, the earth was divided into seventy (sometimes
represented as seventy-two) nations and languages. You can count them yourself in Genesis 10. The usage of the number seventy to represent
the nations of the earth in scripture is discussed in more detail at http://72languages.com/seventy.html. The chart below correlates the ancestors in Genesis 70 with people-groups
over history up to the present day. Sources
include: 1. Genesis 10, written circa 1400 BC but describing events
much earlier 2. The Book of Jasher, written circa
900 BC 3. Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews Book 1, Chapter 5-6,
written circa 100 AD 4. The final column is based on research I did in the summer
of 1971. Few people-groups have remained
in the same location for the past two millennia. It is therefore necessary to update Josephus’
list to reflect subsequent migrations. Intermarriage has of course occurred among all groups over
the intervening millennia. This chart shows
major or dominant scriptural ancestry for different people groups, but does not
attempt to comprehensively consider minor lineages. Genesis 10 ca.
